New Poll: Lowden/Tarkanian Over Reid + Ensign

August 23, 2009 - By administrator

The Mason-Dixon Polling and Research survey, reported Sunday in the Las Vegas Review-Journal, showed GOP candidate Danny Tarkanian leading Reid by 49 percent to 38 percent in Nevada.

The new poll also showed Sue Lowden, chairwoman of the Nevada Republican Party and a possible candidate, leading Reid by 45 percent to 40 percent.

Even though John Ensign isn’t up for reelection until 2012, the new poll showed 37 percent of voters would vote against him, while 30 percent would re-elect Ensign. Twenty-three percent said they’d consider a challenger.

Tarkanian Poll Shows 8 Points on Reid

August 15, 2009 - By administrator

A new internal poll released by the Danny Tarkanian Campagin shows Tarkanian 50% to Reid 42%, with 8% undecided. You can download the PDF below. Here are details of the poll:

Party
Republican 38%
Democrat 44%
NP 10%
AI 3%
Other 3%
Refused 2%

County
Clark 67%
Washoe 19%
Other county 14%

If the election for US Senate were held today, would you vote for:
Republican Danny Tarkanian 334 50%
Democrat Harry Reid 276 42%
Undecided 52 8%
Total 662 100%

Anjeanette Damon from the RGJ points out a few things to consider regarding this poll:

Of course, with all internal polls, the results should be taken with a degree of skepticism. A couple of caveats exists here that could affect the accuracy of this one. It was an automated poll, meaning a recorded voice asked respondents to express their preference by pushing a number on their phone. These polls, while inexpensive to run, are not regarded as the most accurate method of obtaining survey results.

The poll also was a one-day tracking poll, which doesn’t usually turn up the most reliable samples. One-day returns generally swing pretty wildly as a result and are usually averaged over a three-day period to produce a decently reliable trend.

From an announcement on her website:

The Committee To Elect Robin L. Titus MD To The U.S. Senate is announcing a Kickoff Rally on August 22, 2009 at 1PM.  Please plan to attend and bring your friends to learn more about Robin’s bid to be the next U.S. Senator from Nevada.  Robin will be making a brief speech outlining her views and plans and soliciting ideas to improve the campaign.  This is a great opportunity to meet Robin, discuss important topics and become involved in helping Robin.  This rally will take place at Robin’s river-side retreat – 2.5 miles up Hoye Canyon Road in Wellington, NV (the beginning of Hoye Canyon Road is across from the C.G. Bar).  Hot dogs, chips, lemonade and water along with chairs, tables and shade will be provided.

Having graduated high school in Lyon County, I would love to see a no-name like Dr. Titus pull off a victory over Harry Reid. At this point, she has just as good of a chance as any of the other no-names.

Dean Heller not running against Harry Reid

August 11, 2009 - By administrator

Unfortunately, Dean Heller announced that he will not be running against Harry Reid. Not a big shocker, as he’s been keeping a low profile. I honestly think he’s building up his reputation before he makes a Senate or Presidential run. He’s one of the only Republicans that isn’t involved in a scandal recently. From Politico:

Republicans believe that Reid’s approval ratings are low enough that even a political newcomer could make a serious play at the seat in 2010.

There aren’t many Republican elected officials left who are interested in challenging Reid.  Former GOP congressman Jon Porter passed on a bid earlier this year, and the state’s lieutenant governor Brian Krolicki is enmeshed in legal troubles.

Supporters of the state GOP chairwoman, Sue Lowden, commissioned a poll showing her leading Reid by six points, 48 percent to 42 percent — but she hasn’t made any moves to prepare for a Senate campaign.

Businessman Danny Tarkanian, the son of former UNLV coach Jerry Tarkanian, entered the race last week but is not viewed seriously by national GOP operatives.
