Fair Nevada Elections PAC to Oppose Lowden in Primaries

October 28, 2009 - By administrator

A new Political Action Committee has been formed to oppose Republican candidate Sue Lowden in the Primaries. From the article:

Robert Holloway, 64, said he’s launching the Fair Nevada Elections PAC because he blames Lowden for a breakdown at the 2008 state Republican convention.

Convention officials allowed proceedings to come to a halt after supporters of presidential candidate Ron Paul appeared to have mustered more delegates than eventual nominee John McCain.

Paul was considered an insurgent candidate and McCain the favorite of the party’s leaders.

Lowden was chairwoman of the Nevada Republican Party at the time, although she wasn’t in charge of the convention. That responsibility had been delegated to former state Sen. Bob Beers, who is now Lowden’s campaign treasurer.

“It would not have stopped without her agreement,” Holloway said. “They ended the convention in the middle of an election.”

Thoughts anyone?

Thanks Robert. Been looking for this. I’m still up in the air as to who I want to vote for in the primaries.

A similar (but even more blatant) event happened in Nevada. In the caucuses McCain was a distant third behind nearly-tied Romney and Paul. Romney withdrew before the delegates got together. When it became apparent that Paul would win the delegate vote handily the power structure did a rules-violating adjournment, turned off the lights and sound system, and walked out. They promised to reconvene but didn’t and submitted their own slate of delegates to the national convention instead. The Paulites tried to get a quorum together some weeks after the aborted conference but missed, so they submitted one of their own, anyhow. At the national convention the credentials committee castigated the state machine and picked their own list of delegates – consisting mainly of the machine’s slate.

It will be interesting to see if the perpetrators of the NV debacle will catch similar flack in their further political careers.

Oops. Please delete my previous comment. I somehow missed that this IS about the NV debacle and thought it was about some other state. B-b

I understand you are putting together a list of questions for the candidates. Here is a question for Sue Lowden.

Sue, why would Nevada voters support you when you stole the election at the state convention? Shouldn’t that be a disqualifying factor for anyone running for the U.S. Senate?
