I just got this announcement in my inbox. Danny Tarkanian, who just announced his entrance into the GOP running against Senator Harry Reid, is planning to hold a town hall meeting in Vegas. In addition, he invited Harry Reid. $20 says Reid doesn’t attend.

(Las Vegas) – In the wake of Senator Harry Reid’s refusal to hold a town hall on health care for his Nevada constituents, Republican US Senate candidate Danny Tarkanian today announced plans to hold a town hall on health care in Las Vegas next week.

“The people of Nevada deserve to be heard on Senator Reid’s proposal to take over the health care system,” said Tarkanian.  “If he won’t hold a town hall – I will.”

In reference to news reports that Senator Reid called health care town hall protesters ‘evil mongers,’” Tarkanian said “This comment shows the complete disregard he has for his own constituents.  Senator Reid is always willing to meet constituents for a fundraiser, but when it comes to serving his constituents, he says, ‘Don’t call us – we’ll call you.’”

Tarkanian invited Senator Reid to attend his town hall.

“I’m extending an invitation to Senator Reid to attend this town hall on health care.  After all, it’s never too late to do the job the people thought they had elected you to do.”

Tarkanian expressed his opposition to the health care takeover proposal Reid is backing in Congress.

“Senator Reid is proposing a complete government takeover of the health care system that robs consumer of real choice in their health care decisions.  He wants to offer a ‘public option’ to complete with the private sector, but the result will just be to crowd out Nevadans’ existing personal health care choices.”

“What’s next?” said Tarkanian. “A ‘public option’ for toothpaste and ice cream?”

Tarkanian’s campaign is finalizing event details and will announce them this weekend.
